Program Highlights

The Skate Trade-In Program allows you to trade in your old skates and receive store credit towards new purchases. This is an excellent chance to get the latest models or explore different brands without breaking the bank.

Trade-In Criteria for Hockey Skates

To ensure a fair and efficient process, please make sure your skates meet the following criteria:

  • Condition: Skates must be clean, in good working condition, and free from mold, mildew, and dirt.
  • Age: Items should be no older than 5 years.
  • Brand and Original Cost: Skates should be from top main brands and have originally cost at least $100. Generic, knock-off, or counterfeit brands are not accepted.
  • Specific Requirements: Tongues and eyelets must be intact and not ripped.
  • Blade holders must not be cracked.
  • Blades must have at least ½” left on them.

Trade-In Process

  1. Assessment: Bring your skates to any MonkeySports location. Our staff will evaluate them based on the outlined criteria.
  2. Approval: If your skates qualify, you will receive store credit.
  3. Shop: Use your store credit to purchase new gear from our extensive selection of hockey equipment.

Now, in addition to our scheduled events, trade-ins can be conducted anytime through an "always on" feature available at all our retail locations. This new, ongoing service allows athletes to swap their old gear for credit towards new purchases any day of the year, making it even easier to keep your equipment up-to-date and in great condition.

Expanding Our Accepted Products

Currently, our trade-in program accepts a select range* of products to ensure quality and reliability. We are excited to announce that we will be gradually expanding the types of equipment accepted in our trade-in program. This expansion means that more athletes will have the opportunity to refresh their gear more often, from a broader range of sports. Keep an eye on our announcements and website for updates on which new categories and items will be included.

What equipment is accepted at the trade-in event?

Examples of items accepted at the event include: Items that are in good working condition, purchased within the past 5 years, and have an original retail value of more than $100.  For more information, please visit:  https://sidelineswap.com/trade-in-events.

What equipment is NOT accepted at the trade-in event?

Examples of items NOT accepted at the event include: Damaged or heavily worn products, items purchased more than 5 years ago, knock-offs, generic store brands, counterfields, and large items like bikes, kayaks, and treadmills. How am I paid?

Athletes receive a quote from SidelineSwap for gear that meets the trade-in guidelines and, upon acceptance, they will be issued a MonkeySports gift card. Sometimes there are added incentive bonuses that give you a chance to earn more cash for your trade-in, be sure to ask a MonkeySports associate.
